Nisha, a determined 27-year-old transgender woman, encountered myriad obstacles from an early age. Unveiling her authentic self at 13, she maneuvered through a tumultuous path amidst familial strife. Her mother passed away when she was merely 3 years old. Despite possessing only an education up to the 8th grade, Nisha found herself ensnared in the grim occupation of sex work upon her arrival in Delhi with her brother at the age of 18, earning a meager 20k-30k to provide for her family. Lingering memories of bullying in school and assault in a corporate environment haunted her, casting a pall over her existence.

Nonetheless, Nisha’s pivotal moment arrived upon discovering the SET program extended by Centum Foundation at the HDFC Skill Development Centre. This auspicious opportunity not only equipped her with skills for a dignified livelihood but also proffered a chance to liberate herself from the degrading labor she had undertaken to sustain her family during arduous times. Nisha’s odyssey stands as a testament to her resilience and the transformative potency of education and skill enhancement.
